REFOTDE > Departments > GIS and Cartography

GIS enables us to visualize and comprehend space, the elements within it, and the related factors, which assists in decision-making for selecting data collection sites (screening). These techniques and tools allow us to gather spatial data during field surveys, perform spatial analyses, and create maps in the office. These maps are utilized in our project reports, student theses, and article publications. This unit employs specific tools and software.

The tools used include laptops, USB drives, an internet connection, GPS, and a compass, among others.

Types of Data

  • GPS coordinates
  • Satellite images
  • Statistical data
  • Geo-referenced databases

GIS Work Results

The results of our work are various types of maps, including:

  • Location maps
  • Thematic maps
  • Analysis maps
  • Topographic maps (Digital Terrain Models)
  • Land Use Plans

Perspective and Innovation

The mapping unit is constantly seeking updates to technical tools and innovations in the field of software, tools, and geospatial data
